How to add your own ICPs to Rainmaker
Rainmaker proposes buyer segments from your website, but you know your market. Describe your own ideal customer profile and Rainmaker turns it into its own campaign.
An ICP (ideal customer profile) tells Rainmaker who to look for: the people, the companies and the reason they would buy. When Rainmaker reads your website it proposes buyer segments for you. You can add your own next to them, or add more to a website you already use.
Each ICP becomes its own campaign, with its own leads, inbox and results. A website can have up to 10 ICPs.
1. Start a new campaign
Click New campaign in the sidebar, or on the Campaigns page. If your workspace already has a website, you get two choices:
- New website: Rainmaker reads a website and proposes buyer segments. You can add your own ICPs on the same screen.
- Existing website: pick a website you already use and add ICPs by hand, without reading the site again.
If this is your first campaign, Rainmaker goes straight to reading your website.
2. Open the ICP form
On a New website, enter the Company website, click Read company, check the summary, and continue to the segments step. Below the proposed segments, click Add another ICP. The proposed segments become campaigns too, so edit them on this screen if they need it.
On an Existing website, choose the website from the Website list. You see the campaigns and ICPs it already has, and an empty Your ICP 1 form. Click Add ICP for more than one.
3. Fill in who you are targeting
Three fields are required:
- ICP name, for example "Heads of Sales at logistics firms". It becomes the campaign name, so give each ICP its own.
- Job titles, separated by commas, for example "VP Sales, Head of Sales".
- Why they buy: a short description of the problem you solve for them.
4. Narrow it down
These fields are recommended, because they keep sourcing focused on the right companies:
- Target countries. Leave it empty to use all your active markets.
- Industries, separated by commas.
- Company size (employees), as a minimum and a maximum.
You can also add Pains and Buying triggers (for example "New funding, hiring sales reps") if you know them.
5. Pick the goal and create the campaigns
Choose the campaign goal: Book meetings or Drive account signups. You can change it later in the campaign's settings.
Then click Create campaigns (the button shows how many will be created, for example Create 3 campaigns). On a new website with the Drive account signups goal, click Continue first: you can connect your signup source there or skip it for later.
You land on Campaigns created, with a Source leads button for each new campaign.
What happens next
Nothing is sent yet. Open a campaign's Leads tab and click Run prospector to find and score contacts that match the ICP. The prospecting guide walks through the rest.
To change which segment an existing campaign sources from, open the campaign's Settings tab and use Target segment under Market and volume. To add a new ICP, start a new campaign on the existing website as above.
Try it on your own site.
Start the 14-day trial without a card, paste your website, and follow along.
