How to import a CSV of contacts into a Rainmaker campaign
Already have a list? Upload it to a campaign as a CSV file. Rainmaker matches the columns, skips duplicates, and tells you which rows it couldn't take and why.
Besides the leads Rainmaker finds for you, you can bring your own: a list from an event, a spreadsheet of accounts you already know, or contacts exported from another tool. Anyone who can edit campaigns can import one.
1. Open Add lead on the campaign
Open the campaign and go to its Leads tab. Click Add lead manually. The window offers two ways in: Type one lead manually for a single referral or warm contact, and Import a CSV for a list. Click Import a CSV.
2. Prepare the file and choose scoring
Click Download template for a file with the right column headers and one example row. Rainmaker matches columns by their header, so the order doesn't matter. It reads:
- first name and last name
- title (job title)
- company and domain (the company's website)
- linkedin (the profile address)
- country
Each row needs a company website (or an email address it can be worked out from), an email address or a LinkedIn profile, and a country that is active in your workspace. A file can have up to 1,000 rows. Save it as CSV from your spreadsheet tool.
Then decide on scoring. Imported leads are scored for fit like any other, and Rainmaker doesn't draft emails or LinkedIn sequences for leads scoring below 60. If you want every lead in the file drafted whatever its score, tick Skip fitness scoring. Leave it unticked to keep the usual filter.
3. Upload and read the result
Drag the file onto the box, or click Choose file. When the import finishes, a line above the leads says what happened, for example 2 imported, 0 duplicates skipped, 1 rejected — 1: country missing or not activated for this workspace. A rejected row is left out for one of these reasons:
- row could not be read
- no company website (and none derivable from the email)
- no email and no LinkedIn URL
- country missing or not activated for this workspace
- contact previously opted out
Fix the rejected rows in your file and import it again: the contacts already imported are skipped as duplicates. To switch on another country, see markets, opt-outs and compliance.
Next, the new leads join the campaign's list. Click Draft sequence to write their messages, then approve them in Review. Emails to imported addresses are checked before anything is sent. See approve drafts before they send.
Try it on your own site.
